Adelman Appointed to National Travel and Tourism Committee
MILWAUKEE – (October 3, 2005) – Appointed by Jonathan Tisch, chairman of the 80-member prestigious Travel Business Roundtable Organization (TBR), Craig Adelman, president and CEO of Adelman Travel Group, attended his first meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in New York City. Adelman Travel Group was ranked number eight of 24,000 U.S. travel agencies by Business Travel News.
The mission of the Travel Business Roundtable is to educate elected officials on the important economic and social contributions of the travel and tourism industry. Established in 1995 to continue the momentum of the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism, TBR has helped ensure that the diverse industry speaks with a unified and powerful voice.
In its 10 years, TBR has made many great strides toward increasing government and public awareness of the economic size and strength of the travel and tourism industry. Members of Congress and members of the media now recognize TBR as the leading voice on government policy in Washington.
With its membership of more than 80 CEOs and senior executives from the leading travel-related companies, TBR is representative of the many sectors that comprise the travel and tourism industry. In addition to hotels, airlines, car rental agencies, travel management companies, theme parks, and financial service companies, TBR’s roster includes important members such as Coca-Cola, USA Today, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
TBR members have visited more than 60 Senators and 250 members of the House to discuss the specific impact travel and tourism has on both the nation’s economy, as well as that of their own constituency. In light of the tragedies of September 11 and the resulting impact on travel and tourism, this activity has become even more central to the mission of the organization.
In the past, meetings were conducted with the following:
- The Secretary of State
- The Secretary of Homeland Security
- The Secretary of Commerce
- The Secretary of Transportation
- The Secretary of Labor
- The Chiefs of Staff to the President and Vice President
Mr. Tisch, Chairman of Loews Hotels, stated, “We will continue to really focus our efforts on discussing and pointing out what an economic engine our industry is for this country. We’re the third-largest retail industry and, unfortunately, a lot of our elected officials don’t understand that.”
