]]>What should you do if winter tries to wreak havoc on your travel plans? The following tips will help you be more prepared.
- Plan ahead and know your options: Airlines may waive change or cancellation fees if extreme weather is on the horizon. If you hear on Monday that a storm is coming on Wednesday, the airline may let you leave Tuesday night to be ahead of the weather. Alternatively, look into other possible routes that may not be as affected by the impending storm.
- Download a variety of travel apps: You will be more prepared if the airline isn’t your only source for information. Flight Stats offers live tracking of delays and cancelations and Flight Weather accesses the same weather data that pilots use.
- Check to see if you have been rescheduled already: Some airlines will automatically reschedule you, so watch for a phone call, email, or text. Or log into your frequent flyer account on the airline’s website or app to see if there’s been an update.
- Don’t just wait in that long line: If your flight has been canceled while at the airport, try going online to rebook your flight. If you are a member of an airline lounge (if not, consider purchasing a day pass) the agent inside may be able to help you faster. Or look to social media. Check Facebook or Twitter as many airlines will update their feeds with the latest information. CBS News Travel Editor, Peter Greenberg also suggests tweeting at your airlines’ support accounts.
- Contact your Adelman Consultant: Besides monitoring weather and other disruptive events, Adelman will proactively identify and assist potentially affected customers. In addition, the Adelman team is available 24/7 to help our clients facing unplanned travel complications.
