Take the train to the “Top of Europe” in Switzerland

Travel by train for a scenic journey to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

As part of an educational trip to Switzerland, Adelman’s Cathrin Letterman and Lyn Kelley journeyed by train to the “Top of Europe.” According to Cathrin, “The Matterhorn was always the BIG to do when in Switzerland, however Jungfraujoch, also referred to as ‘Top of Europe,’ ” is definitely a must do!!!”  Cathrin continues, “Jungfrau is much more than just an alp…there are so many little villages that live on the Alps and farmers with their cows. Keep watch, for you may catch a glimpse of the herdsman and their dairy cows grazing on the Alps. They are up there for 100 days.”

At 11,332 feet above sea level, Jungfraujoch and its surrounding area provides much to do for adventurers. During winter, visitors can ski, take a fast-paced trip down the mountain on an extreme sled, or explore the Ice Palace. In the warmer months visitors will find miles of scenic hiking along with action opportunities such as zip-lining or hang gliding. According to Lyn, “The snow-capped peaks and views that go on forever are simply breathtaking.”

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

The Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa served as a base for Lyn and Cathrin during their stay in the Jungfrau area. This historic five-star resort is located amid the mountains of the Bernese Highlands and presents a peerless ambience for guests looking for a family holiday, adventure, or healthy weekend. The resort’s unique Spa Nescens offers a wide variety of services and ranks as one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. Lyn said she especially enjoyed watching all the hang gliders as they landed in the nearby park from her balcony at Victoria Grand Jungfrau.

While in the area, Lyn and Cathrin also recommend taking the scenic Cogwheel train up Mt Pilatus. At the top of the mountain visitors can hike and take pictures, participate in other hi-adventure activities, or listen to live music while enjoying a delicious meal and the fantastic view. In the winter, guests can snow shoe, sled, and more.  And when it’s time to come back down from Mt Pilatus, visitors can choose to take the aerial cableway or the panorama gondolas, both of which also offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
