Travel Alerts

Numerous foreign officials will be traveling to Japan for The Enthronement Ceremony of new Emperor Naruhito. Travel disruptions are expected Oct. 19-26. During this period, security will be enhanced and traffic restrictions are expected within Japan’s metropolitan areas. An especially high volume of traffic is expected Oct. 22-23 when festivities peak. Visitors planning on traveling through the airports are strongly recommended to use public transportation and to allow ample time to avoid delays due to traffic congestion.

Security has already been enhanced at Haneda, Narita, and other domestic airports in Japan where the check-in and immigration control processes may take longer than normal.

Flights arriving and departing from airports in Japan may be delayed or canceled due to operations of government aircraft from each country. In addition, Japan Airlines said it is cancelling select domestic flights on Oct. 21 and Oct. 24 to help minimize further delays. The carrier asks customers to check “Flight Information” on the JAL website in advance for a list of cancelled flights and flight status on specific travel dates. JAL is also offering change waivers for travel to/from Haneda and Narita airport between Oct. 19-26.

Other airlines may also offer waivers.

Check with your airline or your Adelman travel consultant for specific rebooking or cancelation options.

Travelers are advised to monitor airline flight status with regards to your specific itinerary but should also reconfirm ground transportation arrangements as public may also be impacted.

Please contact your Adelman travel consultant for additional information.
