A major fire has broken out at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The fire has been raging out of control for several hours and a good portion of the church has been destroyed as part of the roof and the iconic spire has collapsed.

Emergency crews are evacuating the entire island, Ile de la Cité that Notre Dame is located on due to fears of further collapse and possible spread of the fire to other wood structures that are located close by in the tightly packed neighborhood.

At this point there have been no reports of casualties. In addition no official cause for the fire has been released but some early reports have pointed to ongoing renovations as a possible cause.
