The main runway at Rio de Janeiro’s Santos Dumont Airport is closing for repairs Aug. 24-Sep. 21. Santos Dumont Airport handles short-to-medium haul domestic air traffic.

All flights operated by Gol Airlines and LATAM Brasil will be diverted to Rio’s Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport. Some Azul Brazilian Airlines that use larger aircraft will be diverted as well.

Other flights by Azul Brazilian Airlines and all flights offered by Passaredo Linhas Aéreas which are operated using smaller aircraft that are authorized to use the shorter runway 02L/20R (Embraer 195 and ATR 72) will not be affected by the construction closure.

Airlines have been contacting passengers who are impacted by the temporary closure.

All passengers traveling through Rio’s Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport should be prepared for added congestion. Travelers whose flights were rerouted should reconfirm ground arrangements.
