Industrial action on Oct. 25 including a 4-hour air traffic controller strike and a 24-hour work stoppage by Italian trade unions working in the aviation section will impact travelers Oct. 24-26.

Alitalia flights will continue to operate as scheduled during peak times between 7 am to 10 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm local time, but Alitalia has been forced to cancel a number of other flights from late on Oct. 24 through early morning Oct. 26.  A list of cancelled flights can be found at:

To mitigate the disruption Alitalia is using larger aircraft on select flights to accommodate impacted travelers. Affected customers can rebook their travel at no additional cost or penalty, or ask for a full ticket refund if the flight is cancelled or the delay on departure exceeds 5 hours.

American, British Airways and Iberia also issued waivers for travelers who want to move travel to/from Italy away from Oct. 25. Other carriers could also offer waivers.
