Travel Alerts

What is currently a tropical storm, Amphil is expected to strengthen near Okinawa over the few days before making direct landfall, likely between Shanghai and Wenzhou, in eastern China late Sunday night and into Monday.

Airlines have begun issuing advisories and some waivers for the Okinawa area as follows:

American Airlines’ waiver currently covers travel for flights originally scheduled July 19 – 21. Rebooked travel should begin by July 22.

All Nippon Airways is noting that passengers with flights to/from Okinawa, Miyako and Ishigaki are eligible to choose an alternative flight to your destination or cancel your flight with no change/cancellation fee, whether or not a delay or cancellation actually occurs.    Changes and refunds can be processed the day after the departure date of the scheduled flight. Please complete the process within 10 days following the departure date of the scheduled flight.

Other airlines including Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific have issued advisories for possible delays or cancelations but have not issued waivers as of the time of this writing. This may change as the storm progresses. Other carriers may also add their own waivers as well.

Travelers are advised to monitor airline flight status with regards to your specific itinerary as other airports in the region could also be impacted by the storm as it continues to develop.
