Vacationing with a purpose: A service project trip to Punta Cana

Adelman’s Cathrin Letterman recently returned from Punta Cana, Dominica Republic where she and 14 other travel agents from Missouri participated in the first annual Agents Give Back trip, which was sponsored by Apple Vacations. Cathrin’s unique experience began well before arriving at the airport as each participant worked ahead of the trip collecting school supplies. These greatly needed supplies were then distributed to the local children of the Dominican, so they would be ready for the start of the school year.

Once in Punta Cana, Cathrin and the rest of the group headed for the mountains for their service project, which was to paint the local school. The school house needs to be painted twice a year. Without the help of Cathrin and the team the task of painting would fall onto the children themselves who are already responsible for cleaning the school at the end of every day before they can go home. According to Cathrin, “Since it was summer break we didn’t see many children, however, one little boy came by and just watched us paint for about an hour. Towards the end he ventured inside the school yard and was very thankful for all of our hard work.”

After the work was done, Cathrin and the rest of the group got to relax and enjoy the many amenities offered at the Nickelodeon Resort by Karisma, which is featured by Apple Vacations.  The Nickelodeon Resort is a five-star Gourmet Inclusive® destination that delivers a perfect luxury setting for adults with its chic suites, elevated dining experiences, palm fringed infinity pool that overlooks the sparkling sands of Punta Cana and other adult-oriented amenities. The Nickelodeon is also a beachfront paradise for children with its child-focused amenities that feature Nickelodeon’s most beloved characters.  The Aqua Nick waterpark is an extensive area full of water slides, giant dump buckets and spray cannons along with a lazy river. The Nickelodeon Resort also has a free kid’s club that provides hours of fun through crafts, games and other activities including a ball pit. Plus, enthusiastic members of the entertainment team plan character meet-and-greets along with other special events for the kids.

According to Cathrin, “Our accommodations were great. The Nickelodeon Resort is an absolutely fabulous vacation destination for the whole family.”
