American and AeroMexico match bag fee increases

American Airlines and AeroMexico both followed the lead of carriers in increasing some of their fees for checked baggage. As on other airlines, economy class passengers traveling on American will pay $30 for the first checked bag and $40 for the second checked bag on domestic itineraries and on flights to Canada. AeroMexico economy class passengers that did not previously pay for a first checked bag as part of the ticket purchase will now pay $30 for a first checked bag on flights between Mexico and the United States.

 

JFK unveils new VR experience

Travelers who have extra time at New York’s JFK can take advantage of the airport’s newest experience. The Periscope WR Experience Center offers a unique virtual reality experience through a wide variety of VR games and fun. Guests will be greeted by an ambassador who will help them get started. Play times range from 10 minutes to one hour and can be paid for with a credit card swipe. The VR center is located in Terminal 4.

 

Marriott introduces combined guest loyalty bonus

After finally combining its three guest loyalty programs, Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Ritz-Carlton Rewards, the hotel giant launched its first bonus points program that applies to all of its loyalty members who register for the promotion. The MegaBonus in More Places is valid at over 6,700 properties and offers 2,000 bonus points for stays of two nights or longer. The new MegaBonus also rewards members who try new brands within Marriott with an extra 1,000 points starting at the second brand visited. The MegaBonus promotion runs until Jan. 31, 2019.
