A cruise lover’s ultimate bucket list trip

A transatlantic voyage on the luxurious Queen Mary 2 is one of the most iconic cruise itineraries a true cruise lover can experience. Adelman’s Deana Crouch was able to fulfill this bucket list wish as she recently took part in this storied journey sailing from New York to Southampton, England.

The first thing one may wonder is what passengers do all day with seven days at sea and no ports of call.  According to Deana, “The Queen Mary 2 offers an amazing menu of activities from dancing to fencing to painting, there is absolutely so much to do. The ship has a fascinating lecture series featuring some remarkable speakers. You might even be able to meet your favorite author!”

Cruisers can also participate in a wide variety of health and wellness or enrichment classes. “Plus, you can even become a wine expert during tasting sessions and pairing seminars at the Queen Mary 2’s Wine Academy,” said Deana.

When the sun goes down, guests can appreciate the dramatic night skies through the ship’s stellar astronomy program with a planetarium at sea and on-deck constellation viewing.   Once guests are done soaking in nature’s stars, they can enjoy some stars of the stage.  The Queen Mary 2 features a variety of Broadway-style shows, international cabaret artists and talented musicians.  Guests can also participate in theme nights such as the roaring 20’s or a masquerade ball.

For those looking for a more relaxed experience, the ship offers world class spa services along with several pools and hot tubs. Guests can also take advantage of the ship’s extensive library with over 8,000 books or can treat themselves to a little retail therapy browsing the many designer labels and accessories, souvenirs or even artwork available for sale onboard. Or, guests can simply soak in the luxurious surroundings while being pampered by Queen Mary’s famous white-gloved service team. Deana especially enjoyed afternoon high tea and said the dining experiences were amazing. She was also impressed that the Queen Mary 2 is very pet friendly. According to Deana, “The ship offers nice kennels for pets and owners can visit their pets each day.”

From start to finish, Deana was captivated with the Queen Mary 2. “I experienced so many interesting things and met so many interesting people, plus it was very thrilling to sail out of New York City past the Statue of Liberty. When I arrived in England, I wasn’t ready to get off the ship since there was so much more that I wanted to do onboard.”
