Judge says “no” to mechanics work slowdown at American Airlines

A federal judge in Texas ruled that the two unions that represent mechanics at American Airlines must not interfere with the airline’s operations. American went to court alleging that union members were engaging in an illegal work slowdown after contract talks broke down in April. In court documents, American said the actions of the airline’s mechanics had caused hundreds of delayed or cancelled flights. The judge ruled in American’s favor and issued a temporary restraining order because he felt the carrier would prevail in its suit.

Delta acquires stake in Korean Air; adds new seats to 767-400s

Delta announced that it has acquired a 4.3 percent stake of Hanjin-Kal, Korean Air’s largest shareholder. The airline plans to increase its holdings to 10 percent over time after it receives the necessary government approvals. Delta and Korean Air are already trans-pacific joint venture partners, but this latest move will allow for further strengthening of their relationship.

In other news, Delta said it is retrofitting its Boeing 767-400 aircraft with new business class seats and its international premium economy product. The business class seats are being customized for the 767 but take inspiration from the Delta One Suite. The first retrofitted aircraft will be used on select routes to London starting in November, with more flights being added.

DFW now gives wait time information

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is now providing wait time estimates in real time for each of its 16 security check points. This is being done so passengers can better gauge how much time they need to transit the airport. The wait time information, which applies to TSA Precheck and priority lanes, as well as the regular security lines, is available when using the latest version of the airport’s free app. The airport started providing this information on digital displays in its terminals last December. Now that the data is launched via the app, the airport will work on bringing the real-time updates to its website later this summer.
