Emergency responders are still working to put out wildfires which scorched 10,000 acres of land on large swaths of fallow (former sugar cane fields and dry brush) in Maui yesterday. Flights were temporarily been diverted from Kahului Airport, which was operating briefly on a power generator a result of the fire, but power has been restored and flights have resumed, transportation officials said. Still, as the blaze continues, Hawaii tourism officials are advising visitors to monitor conditions on the ground and to also check the status of their flights.

Some airlines have issued waivers as follows:

American: Kahului / Maui (OGG) for travel July 12.

Hawaiian Airlines: Kahului (OGG) and Kapalua (JHM) for travel July 12.

These waivers could be extended and other carriers may add their own exception policies as they evaluate conditions.
