Travel Alerts

Super Typhoon Maria continues to impact travel to Okinawa and other surrounding areas in Japan through July 10. The storm is expected to track toward Taipei through July 11 and eastern China including, Fuzhou and Wenzhou  through July 12, 2018.  Airline waivers currently in effect include:

Cathay Pacific/Cathay Dragon issued waivers for travel to/from Okinawa on July 10. Rebooked travel to Okinawa must occur by July 17. Waivers for Taipei are in place through July 11, 2018 while waivers for China’s Fuzhou and Wenzhou  include travel through July 12.  Rebooked travel to/from Taipei, Fuzhou and Wenzhou  must take place by July 31, 2018.

Japan Airlines issued waivers for travel to/from airports in the southwestern region including Okinawa Naha and Nansei Islands and Sakishima Islands. Waivers are also in place for travel to/from Taipei Taoyuan, Taipei SongShan, Kaohsiung. The waivers include travel on select flights through July 11. Rebooked travel must occur within three days of the original schedule. 

KLM’s waiver currently includes travel via Manila Ninoy Aquino Int’l Airport in addition to Taipei Taoyuan Int’l Airport through July 11.  Rebooked travel should occur by Tuesday  July 17, 2018.

United Airlines issued waivers for flights to Taipei originally scheduled through July 11.  Rebooked travel must begin by July 15, 2018.

These waivers may be extended and other carriers may follow suit as they evaluate forecasted conditions in regards to their operations.

Other airports in the region could also be impacted by the storm.  Travelers are advised to monitor airline flight status with regards to your specific itinerary.
